Well, we made it....

On Saturday, me and Jane got married (I'm typing this from the hotel room in New York), it was an absolutely WONDERFUL day for both of us... everybody had a great time, and it was really nice everybody coming up to us saying our written vows were absolutely lovely. (nice to know we got them good enough!)

After 2 years of selling things, Jane doing overtime (lots of!), and general penny pinching we *almost* had enough money to make the honeymoon we'd dreamed of. Thankfully people who were coming to the wedding knew what we were doing, and apart from a couple of exceptions (and they were very nice exceptions.), all gave us help with the trip instead. A couple of close family members made up the shortfall that was left after that.... (it's actually really nice knowing that although we paid for most of it ourselves, that people we LOVE also helped to make the trip possible. It makes it more special somehow that they were a part of it)

So we're here in New York for a few days, then we pick up the RV and.... off we go! There'll be lots of photos from the wedding and the honeymoon road trip, and there'll be lots of video too when we get back. (the full wedding day was filmed too... so you'll all be able to see it)

and don't worry.... it'll be edited down to about 5 minutes or something.... lol, it won't be like 7 hours long or something

anyway... I just wanted to let you all know that we did it... we really did it... and we made it here. (we keep looking at each other and asking "are we actually here?")

A huge thanks to everyone who came to the wedding, it was wonderful getting married surrounded by everybody we love!

I'm not wordy...

Writing my vows shouldn't have been a problem for me... I tell Jane how much I love her and what she means to me all the time. So why did I have so much trouble putting into a short set of vows that last only a couple of minutes?

Nerves? Maybe... Pressure? possibly... or it's more likely that it's simply the fact that I'm not very good with words.

Want me to do a painting in front of people? I'm sure I'd have no trouble with that. But write down something that I say all the time, but for an official occassion? ...and I just stare at the screen.

...for hours.

...and hours.

There were two nights when I was trying to get them finished before bed, and I ended up staying on here 'till about 2am. And still went to bed with nothing finished. And a few nights ago I went to bed about midnight... and couldn't sleep. At all. 5am.. and I'm still lying there, repeating my vows over and over in my head, trying to figure out how to finish them.

I ended up getting back out of bed, turning the computer back on and carrying on with my vows!

...well at least I got them finished! Hooray!

I don't know what the problem was, it's not like anybody will even remember what we both said to each other. They'll remember that we said some nice things, some slightly amusing things... and that we were married by the end of it.

And that's all that matters I guess!

Getting closer...

Hi, Darren here.

At the time that I write this (to the minute) in five days time, I'll be standing there, at the front... waiting for the wedding music to start and for Jane to walk down the isle. FIVE DAYS.

We're getting closer now, and we starting to get more and more of the 'details' that still needed sorting out dealt with. We've spent the last two days making the large table plan board, the individual place settings, and the table name cards. This involved a lot of printing, measuring, cutting and glueing.

Oh, and shouting... can't forget the shouting. (I'm a perfectionist... and I was driving Jane somewhat mad with my constant "urgh, it's not good enough!"). But we finally got them finished earlier on. Woohoo! One less thing to do.

I suppose at some point I should start writing my vows or something!

Follow our progress...

As most of you know, for our honeymoon we'll be driving across America from coast to coast. We'll be using this blog as a travel journal, to post (whenever we can) about what we've seen and what we've been doing, while we're on the road.

We know that a ton of our friends want to follow what we're doing while we're over there, so we've made it easy. You'll see an email subscription box over to the right. If you put in your email address here, every time we make a post on this blog (both leading up to the wedding, and whilst we're travelling) you'll get an email telling you that there's a new post on here.

Basically it makes it (very) easy to follow our progress, and read about some of the amazing places we've been to. (and maybe we'll put up photos if we have the time)

So enter your email address, and keep up to date with our wedding/honeymoon experiences!

Two weeks to go? already??

Hi folks, Darren here.

Wow... time really got away from us in the last few months. With so much to plan and organise for the wedding and the honeymoon, we kind of forgot/didn't have much time to write any update posts for here. That changes as of today!

Pretty much everything is sorted for the wedding now, it's mainly just small detail things to be finalised. We've got the venue, the music, the food... and the people. So whatever happens it will be a great day! (ooh we're excited)

Anyway, I'm gonna run for now... I'm in the middle of thinking about what I want to say for my vows(!)

Speak to you soon!

Darren
